Guard Your Mind, Watch Your Mouth

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and so according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.

                                                                                                      (Joshua 1:8)

Joshua had plenty of enemies to confront on his journey. As a matter of fact, it seemed there was a never-ending parade of them. But please notice that Joshua was instructed by the Lord to keep the Word, not the problem, in his mouth and in his mind.

Like Joshua, if you and I are to make our way prosperous and have good success in this life, we will definitely need to put our thoughts and words on something other than the problem that faces us. We need to stop thinking about the problem, talking about the problem, and sometimes, we even need to stop praying about the problem. If we have prayed, God has heard. I am not saying there is not a time for importunity; but often we say we our fellowshipping with God, when in reality we are fellowshipping with our problem.

In Mark 11:23 Jesus instructed His disciples to speak to the mountain. He did not say, "Talk about the mountain." If there is a purpose in talking about it, then do so. Otherwise, it is best to keep quiet about it. Words stir up emotions that ofter cause upset because of excessive focus on the circumstance. It is valuable to go out and do something enjoyable while you are waiting for God to solve your problem. You may not feel like it, bu do it anyway. It will help you! Get your mind-and you mouth-off the problem!
