God's Good Plan for Your Life

For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

                                                                                        Ephesians 2:10

Since before we were born, god has had a unique plan for each of us. It is not a plan of failure, misery, poverty, sickness, and disease. God's plan is a good plan, a plan of life and health, happiness, and fulfillment. In Jeremiah 29:11 we read, "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome".

It would benefit every one of us if we would say to ourselves several times a day. "God has a good plan for my life. "Each of us needs to be firmly convinced of that truth to keep us from being affected by our changing circumstances and emotions. You may be asking, "If God has such a wonderful plan for my life, why am I not living in it?" I understand why you would ask that question. It does seem strange that if God loves us so much and has such good plans for us, we should have to suffer and go through pain.

What you must remember is that we have an enemy who is out to destroy God's wonderful plan. Although God has a good plan for my life, I ended up in an abusive environment because the devil came and disrupted that good plan. But there is something else, something really awesome about God, we need to understand. God doesn't like it when someone hurts us and tries to undermine His plan for us. While He is making us lie down in green pastures to restore our soul (see Psalm 23:2-3), He is getting up to do something about our situation!

It should be a great comfort to us to know that what we cannot do for ourselves, the Lord will do for us-if we will trust ourselves to Him.

Anytime, Anywhere

Be unceasing in prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

We can pray anytime, anywhere. Our instructions are to "pray at all times, on every occasion, in every season" and to "be unceasing in prayer," but we know that we cannot spend all day long in a corner talking and listening to God. If we did, we could not live our lives. Prayer needs to be like breathing-regular, easy-and we need to just pray our way through life as part of the way we live. In fact, just as our physical lives are sustained by breathing, our spiritual lives should be maintained by praying. We can pray out loud or we can pray silently. We can pray sitting down, standing up, or walking. We can talk and listen to God while we are moving or while we are being still. We can pray while we are shopping, waiting for an appointment, participating in a business meeting, doing household chores, driving, or taking a shower. We can pray things like, "Thank You, Lord, for everything You're doing," or "God, I need You to help me," or "Oh, Jesus, help that lady over there who looks so sad." Actually, this approach to prayer is God's will. Satan wants us to procrastinate, hoping we will forget to pray. I encourage you to pray right away when something comes to your heart. This will help you stay close to God all day.

Know Your Enemy

We are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness.

                                                                                                        (Ephesians 6:12)

Satan uses people and circumstances, but they are not our real enemy; he is. He finds things and people through whom he can work and delights in watching us fight and war without ever realizing he is the source. When Satan used Peter to try to divert Jesus from going to Jerusalem to complete the task God had sent Him to do, "Jesus turned away from Peter and said to him, Get behind Me, Satan! You are in My way [an offense and a hindrance and a snare to Me]." (Matthew 16:23, Emphasis Mine) Satan used Peter, but Jesus knew that Peter was not His real problem. He turned away from Peter and addressed the source of His temptation.

We need to look beyond what we see or initially feel and seek to know the source of our problem too. Usually we blame people and become angry with them, which only complicates and compounds the problem. When we behave in this manner, we are actually playing right into Satan's hands and helping his plans succeed. We also blame circumstances and sometimes even God, which also delights Satan.

Yes, we need to know our enemy-not only who he is but what his character is like. The Bible encourages us to know the character of God so we can place faith in Him and what He says. Likewise, we should know Satan's character so we do not listen to or believe his lies.

The Rest Of God

For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on God) do enter that rest, in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed and prepared [and waiting for all who would believe] from the foundation of the wold. [Ps. 95:11.]

                                                                                                   (Hebrews 4:3)

Hebrew 4:3 teaches that those who did not listen to God's Word or obey His instructions did not enter into the place of rest He offered them. So when you feel frustrated or upset, or if you lose your peace and your joy, ask yourself, "Am I believing God's Word?"

The only way we will ever be free from struggling is to believe the Word and obey whatever Jesus puts in our hearts to do. Believing God's Word delivers us from struggling so that we can rest in the promises of God.

Are you in need of God's rest? Adhere to Him, trust in Him and rely on Him and experience the rest He has prepared for you.

The Rest of God

Hebrews 4:3 teaches that those who believe God enter into His rest. Experiencing His rest is one way you can tell whether you are really in faith, or whether you are just trying to have faith. When you truly enter into the realm of faith, you enter into the rest of God.

Rest is freedom from excessive reasoning, struggle, fear, inner turmoil, worry, and frustration, which develop because of our working to do what only God can do. Being in God 's rest is not necessarily resting from physical activity, but resting in confidence in the midst of everything that goes on in life. It is a rest of the soul where the mind, will, and emotions are at peace.

You can rest in God because you know He will take care of you and meet your needs. You do not know when or how, and you really do not care because you are enjoying the life you have right now while God works on your problem.

God wants us to live at peace and in His rest. But in order for us to do that, we need to believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out]" (Hebrews 11:6).

If you are worn out, I urge you to enter into God's rest. I encourage you to quit trying to control everyone and everything around you and simply allow God to do for you what only He can do.

No matter what you face, God wants to help you and give you rest.

Live God's Way

Teach meYour way, O Lord, that I may walk and live in Your truth; direct and unite my heart [solely, reverently] to fear and honor Your name. (Psalm 86:11)

If we listen to God's voice and live God's way, if we choose to serve Him, we can avoid long wrestling matches with Him. Wisdom tells us to let God do with us what He wants, so we don't keep going around and around the same "mountain " all the time (see Deuteronomy 2:3). I have met people who have been dealing with the same obstacles and issues for twenty or thirty years. If they had simply obeyed God in the beginning, they would have moved on with their lives long ago.
No matter how much we may enjoy where we are when God finds us, He will not let us stay there and become stagnant. He has new places to take us and new lessons to teach us. He wants to keep us full of life, full of growth, and full of His purposes and plans.
God has said to us, "If you don't pay attention to Me, if you ignore Me and do not give heed to My reproof, I am going to cry out to you. I will try to help you, but if you continue to give Me a deaf ear, you will come to Me in a panic when you get in trouble" (see Proverbs 1:24-28). God is merciful and long-suffering, but there comes a time when we must realize that we just need to be obedient to Him. The sooner we obey and start living God's way, the sooner we can get on with our lives and move forward in God's way, the sooner we can get on with our lives and move forward in God's good plans.

GOD'S WORD FOR YOU TODAY: Pray, obey, and don't delay!

When Angry, Do Not Sin

When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. Leave no [such]room of foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him]. Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need. Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own secured0 for the of redemption (of evil and the consequences of sin). Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:26-32

Life Point

Ephesians 4:26,27 basically tells us to let go of our anger before bedtime. There is only one problem: What happens when we become good and angry in the morning, at least we have all day to get over it. But when we become angry close to bedtime, we have to make a quick decision about what to do with our anger.

Why is it so unwise for us to go to bed angry? I think it is because while we sleep, what we are angry about has time to take root in us. But the Word admonishes us not leave room for the devil to gain a foothold through our anger. If we refuse to get over our anger by bedtime, we open a door for the devil and give him a foothold. Once Satan gets a foothold in our lives, he sees an opportunity to move on to a stronghold.

I encourage you today to deal with you anger quickly and decisively so the devil sees no opportunity to take advantage of the situation. No matter how you feel, you can choose to forgive and walk in love.
